Lola Mitchell, better known as Gangsta Boo, was the second female artist to be included in the groundbreaking rap group Three 6 Mafia. Boo was found dead in her local Memphis home around 4 pm New Year’s Day.
Although her cause of death has yet to be released sources such as TMZ claim it may be drug-related.
Gangsta Boo’s death has shaken the hip-hop industry tremendously. Boo took to Instagram just one day before her demise sending best wishes and addressing her hopefulness for the new year. She penned, “Some of the things that I did in 2022! So fun and productive, climbed out my shell alot!! 2023 go be 23’n! #JORDAN #BOOPRINT #recap Happy New 2023 everyone!”
Gangsta Boo began her career at the age of 14 by channeling her love of poetry into a passion for music. Just one year later she joined the pioneering group Three 6 Mafia as 1 out of 2 original female members. Their southern roots and Memphis style shaped the space of southern hip-hop forever.
Boo’s solo career also showed great success with a total of 3 solo albums. In a recent Billboard interview Gangsta deemed herself “the BluePrint,” claiming she hears her cadence in many up-and-coming Memphis artists. Her newest album, The BooPrint, was set to release this year.
As many in the industry mourn the loss of a legend, icon, and undeniable force Memphis police are set to begin a full investigation into the star’s death.
